Aloha! Hawaii's "Big Island," Kona-Kohala, has the distinction of being not only breathtakingly beautiful, but also having a vibrant culture and fascinating history. There's something there for everyone! Once you've experienced the scenery and the beaches, you can visit an art gallery, watch traditional Hawaiian dancers, enjoy a cup of famous Kona coffee, or take a tour to see a volcano. Follow the footsteps of Captain Cook, who established European contact with the island in 1778 – the place where he died is now a marine preserve and favourite snorkelling spot. The Big Island really is big – the biggest of all the Hawaiian islands – and it's still growing, thanks to the ongoing activity of the Kilauea volcano, which has been erupting constantly since 1983. There are eleven different climate zones on Kona-Kohala, giving visitors the opportunity to sample everything from rain forests to snow-clad mountain peaks. Whether your taste runs to golf, water sports, spa visits, art, dance, food, or history, Kona-Kohala has something for you. Your biggest challenge may be deciding how to spend each day in paradise!
