Québec City is considered to be the cradle of French civilization in North America. The second oldest existing European settlement in North America, the city was founded in 1608 by explorer Samuel de Chaplain, and celebrates its 400th anniversary in 2008. Québec City is the capital of the province of Québec and one of Canada's most beautiful cities. Its Old Quarter is the only walled city in North America, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Other attractions include historical sites like the Plains of Abraham (site of an important battle between French and English forces in 1759) as well as the Québec Parliament (the Assemblée nationale du Québec) and the landmark Château Frontenac. Visiting Québec City is an experience you will never forget.
